Dr. Lons' Case of the Week is a 12 week old puppy, recently adopted from a shelter.  The puppy was presented with itching and having hair loss on face, around eyes and on legs and feet.  Upon exam, no fleas or ticks were seen and there was no skin infection.

A skin scrape found demodex. Demodex is a parasite that lives in the hair follicles. It has a genetic component and can be worsened by stress.  There are various levels of this disease generalized -vs- localized. Treatment is based on individual basis.  This pup was treated and is doing well.
